CHENGDU, China, Oct. 20, 2026 – TVU Networks provided live 4K transmission for the 2026 Geely Auto Chengdu International Racing Festival, held Oct. 16-18 at Chengdu Tianfu International Circuit. Multiple TVU One mobile transmitters sent feeds from across the venue to TVU Transceiver servers, which delivered them as SDI into the existing production system of Xinhuanet, which produced the event’s live broadcast.

The festival hosted round six of the eight-round 2026 FIA TCR World Tour, the series’ first visit to southwest China. The TCR China Championship, the Lotus Cup China, and the Green Methanol Super Geely League PRO also raced on the bill, for a total of seven qualifying sessions and nine races. It was the first international event at the 3.26-km, 19-turn circuit, the only FIA Grade 2 track in the region.

Covering the Whole Venue

Camera crews were constantly on the move. In addition to trackside positions, they shot in the pit lane, on the starting grid, and in the fan zones, relocating throughout each day. Running cable to every position was not practical.

Cellular conditions were also difficult. Thousands of fans loaded the local networks, while grandstands, barriers, and crowds blocked signals. And 4K requires far more bandwidth than HD.

How TVU One Handled It

Operators carried TVU One in a backpack. The unit uses TVU’s ISX (Inverse StatMux) technology to bond up to 12 connections, including 5G/4G cellular, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet. ISX monitors every link in real time and moves traffic away from any connection that becomes congested or weak, keeping the stream stable.

HEVC (H.265) encoding keeps 4K bitrates low enough for public networks, and forward error correction (FEC) recovers lost packets at the receiver without waiting for retransmission.

In the control room, each feed arrived on its own TVU Transceiver channel and went out as baseband SDI. The production team kept its existing switchers and workflow, cutting between the track, pit lane, grid, and fan zones as the racing unfolded.

“Our crews were in the pit lane, on the grid, and out in the fan zones all weekend, and we needed every one of those positions to live in 4K. With TVU One in a backpack, an operator could walk to a new spot and be back on air quickly. Even with the grandstands full and the local network under pressure, the feeds held up through all nine races,” said the project director at Xinhuanet.

“Motorsport is one of the toughest environments for live transmission. The action is spread across a big venue, the crews never stop moving, and tens of thousands of fans are competing for the same cellular networks,” said Zack Wan, Sales Director for Southwest China at TVU Networks. “What Chengdu showed is that broadcasters can get 4K quality and full mobility at the same time. That is where live sports coverage is heading, and it is exactly what we built TVU One to do.”
