In the unforgiving deserts of Baja Mexico, where 850-horsepower trucks tear through sand and rock at speeds nearing 150 MPH, Terrible Herbst Motorsports isn’t just racing—it’s innovating. Known for its fierce legacy in off-road racing, Terrible Herbst set out to break more than records. They wanted to redefine how fans experience desert racing, and they turned to TVU Networks to make it happen.

The Challenge: Capture the Chaos

Covering a high-speed desert race like the Baja 500 isn’t for the faint of heart. Helicopters, off-road trucks, remote terrain, and real-time coverage don’t play well together under traditional broadcast models.

“You used to have a big truck filled with people which was obviously extremely expensive,” said Bryan Moore, Director of Media and Aerial Production at Terrible Herbst Motorsports. “With TVU, you’re getting the same amount of productivity with way less cost because you’re able to do it remotely.”

The team needed a solution that could:

  • Streamline live production across helicopters and racing trucks
  • Enable remote operators to collaborate from multiple states
  • Deliver a highly produced live show
  • Maintain reliable connectivity in some of the most remote corners of Baja

Workflow

The Solution: TVU Cloud Ecosystem in Action

For the 2025 Baja 500, Terrible Herbst deployed a powerful, cloud-based production workflow using three of TVU Networks’ key tools:

  • TVU Producer: Enabled live multi-camera switching in the cloud, letting the team view and direct helicopter and truck-mounted feeds in real time from anywhere.
  • TVU MediaHub: Acted as the command center, managing and routing all live feeds for precise control and distribution.
  • TVU Anywhere: Provided additional camera angle integration, giving fans a richer, more dynamic stream.

TVU Networks: Built for Extreme Remote Production

To capture the race from above and at ground level, the production team rack-mounted cameras to the trucks and in the aerial helicopter, which was also fitted with Starlink for high-speed, mobile internet. Despite the vehicles racing through rugged terrain at breakneck speeds, the live feeds remained stable, sharp, and compelling.

Production didn’t stop at the border. A geographically dispersed team across Oregon, California, and Chicago handled the entire show remotely, eliminating the need for traditional production trucks or on-site crews.

“Our collaboration with Terrible Herbst Motorsports showcases the power and flexibility of cloud-native production in even the most extreme environments,” said Socrates Lozano, VP, Solutions Americas at TVU Networks. “By combining TVU’s remote production tools with innovative connectivity solutions, we helped bring high-speed desert racing to life in a way that’s immersive, efficient, and scalable, proving that no location is too remote for world-class live coverage.”

The Result: A Cinematic Live Experience

From sweeping aerial views to gritty, up-close action shots, the Terrible Herbst Baja 500 live stream delivered an elevated experience unlike any other in desert racing. With TVU’s cloud solutions ecosystem at the core, the production met broadcast-level standards, without the broadcast-level cost or complexity.

“My skillset in cinematography is what has pushed me to create not just a stream, but an extremely high-end live show,” said Moore. And that’s exactly what fans received. For Terrible Herbst Motorsports, legacy and innovation go hand-in-hand. As the team continues to dominate the world of off-road racing, it’s also reshaping how that world is seen.
