TVU Networks and South Korea’s KT Corp. Partner in World’s First 5G UHD Broadcast Network

Collaboration Reaffirms TVU Networks’ Commitment to the Power and Possibility of Advanced Video Capability Over 5G

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – March 20, 2019 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP solutions, today announced a partnership with KT Corp., the largest telecom company in South Korea, to bring UHD broadcast over KT’s 5G enterprise network. Under terms of the agreement, KT and TVU Networks will work collaboratively to establish an enterprise 5G network and related broadcast capabilities in Korea.

KT, formerly known as Korea Telecom, showcased the world’s first trial 5G services during the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games in February 2018. KT also broadcast live the last concert of K-pop group Wanna One on its IPTV service, Olleh TV, earlier this year. The broadcast was delivered through set-top boxes and mobile devices using the 5G network. KT is expected to launch the network’s full-scale commercialization in April.

This recent partnership marks a major step in TVU Networks’ continued commitment to 5G technology. The company has been at the forefront of 5G from the very beginning, with its transmitter product line supporting 5G. TVU Networks’ continuously collaborates with regional providers around the world in their 5G deployment efforts, continuously looking to implement that technology within its video over IP solutions.

“We’re thrilled to be part of such a pioneering effort that reflects our own continued commitment to the power and possibility of 5G,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “Video is now what most people watch on their smart phones, but to take the quality, services offered and accessibility of video to the next level requires the low latency, high speed, and ultra-connectivity that 5G provides. The backbone of the 5G network pares perfectly with our ability to acquire, manage and deliver the ultimate 4K video over IP.”

TVU Networks will work closely with KT to provide 4K UHD broadcast technology and services that meet KT’s 5G device standards. KT will provide technical support such as device standards and a testing environment.

Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS), one of Korea’s three major broadcasting companies, is working with KT to develop the broadcast capabilities of this new 5G network. SBS is a customer of TVU Networks and introduced TVU Networks’ capabilities to KT. Assisting SBS in these efforts is TVU Network’s Seoul-based reseller iCRAFT.

“We’re clear that 5G networks will be critical as we provide our customers with the optimal mobile video experience,” said Park Hyun-Jin, Senior Vice President of KT’s 5G Business Unit.  “The data capacity, speed and low latency in the network will enable innovations unlike anything we’ve seen before. We know that TVU Networks is the ideal partner to take this next step in our company’s evolution. And we’re positive our customers will agree.”

TVU Networks solutions deployed to enhance RTVE coverage of Dakar Rally 2019

The high quality and reliability of TVU Nano Router and TVU Anywhere enabled RTVE to broadcast smartphone captured video live and full-screen in its coverage of Dakar Rally 2019

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – March 11, 2019 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, today announces that the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE deployed TVU Nano Router and TVU Anywhere to contribute SDI video over wireless networks from the remote and difficult conditions of the Dakar Rally in Latin America live to the RTVE studio in Barcelona. The Dakar Rally is a renowned off-road rally endurance race that has been going on for more than 40 years.

The IP streaming videos, which were aired live on RTVE flagship channels La 1 and Teledeporte, were shot on smartphones, transmitted over local mobile networks, and delivered as HD-SDI output feeds to RTVE’s studio. It achieved this due to the ability of the TVU Anywhere app to aggregate mobile data from the smartphone and the compact TVU Nano Router, used as an additional hotspot enabled by three SIMs.

“Just getting video back from the incredibly hostile environment of the Latin American deserts where the Dakar Rally takes place is a big achievement. However, the combination of the TVU Anywhere mobile application and the TVU Nano Router provided such high-quality video coverage of the rally. This year the reliability, quality and low-latency of the TVU solution enabled us to go full-screen and live with HD SDI output from a smartphone,”said RTVE.

TVU Nano Router is designed to be the smallest possible hardware solution for the high-quality contribution of video over WiFi, Ethernet and cellular networks. TVU Anywhere is a powerful app for capturing and streaming live video from anywhere, delivering picture quality usually reserved for more expensive professional video equipment. TVU Anywhere also features remote pan-and-zoom allowing an operator in a studio to control the camera remotely without intervention from the user in the field.

“It’s exciting that our incredibly compact solutions enabled RTVE to capture footage of the Dakar Rally on smartphone and air the video live and in full-screen for the first time on its flagship La 1 channel,” said, David Jorba, Managing Director Europe, at TVU Networks. “It’s our mission to increase the quality of live video and the scalability and mobility of the live streaming solutions, while stripping out complexity and reducing cost for our customers, independently of the way the content is captured and transported. The TVU Anywhere and TVU Nano Router solution certainly delivered this for RTVE and we look forward to our cutting-edge solutions continuing to make a difference for all broadcasters and operators producing live events.”

TVU Networks to Introduce New Broadcast Workflow Automation and Optimization Enhancements for the Media Supply Chain Process

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – February 20, 2019 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP solutions, will demonstrate the newest product updates for TVU MediaMind, its media supply chain platform, in the company’s booth (#C1707) at the annual NAB Show in April. TVU MediaMind’s story-centric workflow approach simplifies content creation, production and distribution while incorporating the latest integration and support for automation, AI, streaming, 4K and 5G.

“With the many, different ways media content is consumed today by viewers, broadcasters can no longer acquire, produce and distribute media for just TV. In fact, the way programs are created must completely change,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “By automating and optimizing the media supply chain process, broadcasters can realize the benefits of taking raw content and re-using it across many platforms, programs and even organizations. TVU MediaMind allows anyone to create stories, wherever and however they want efficiently, effectively and without limits.”

For example, within content acquisition,  the company will showcase a new 4K version of its TVU One mobile transmitter, which is the first cellular mobile unit with the ability to transmit Ultra-HD/4Kp60 HEVC content. “UHD/4Kp60 is a much more technically challenging resolution to achieve in a cellular mobile unit,” explained Shen. “However, using our patented IS+ transmission algorithm and advanced FEC technology, we were able to overcome these challenges and transmit video in full UHD/4K at 60 frames per second.”

Added Shen, “The TVU One 4K and our entire family of portable and rack-mount transmitters are also now 5G ready.”

Other TVU solutions receiving enhancements and updates that will be demonstrated at NAB include:

In order to keep pace with its 24/7 schedule of live and on-demand sports coverage, the company has selected TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, to help address its growing need for on-location live video capturing and sharing.

Based on FloSports’ previous rental experience with TVU Networks’ equipment, they knew the company’s gear was more than up to its rigorous video content demands. Additionally, TVU’s customer support is superior to the support offered by other providers.”

Powered by IS+, TVU’s proprietary transmission algorithm, TVU transmitters can simultaneously aggregate any combination of bandwidth mediums including cellular 3G/4G LTE, WiFi, Ethernet, Ka-band and Ku-band satellite, microwave, microwave mesh and BGAN to deliver a reliable and dependable broadcast picture with sub-second latency, as low as 0.5 seconds.

FloSports consistently delivers high-quality, live and on-demand coverage to its viewers regardless of the sport or venue. “The flexibility and dependability of TVU products enables us to push the limits of traditional broadcasting,” Helton added. “The technology has proved itself cost and time effective and works flawlessly every time. We’re thankful to have found them. TVU’s solid performance strengthens our commitment to the FloSports model of remote production and IP video transmission. It is truly the future of broadcast.”

“FloSports’ business model fits perfectly within the sweet spot of our video-over-IP technology,´ TVU Networks Vice President, North America Sales Matt Keiler said. “The sports they cover require remote production in challenging environments often without cellular or with unstable connections, with fast moving content, constantly changing locales, and a finite budget. Future Trading uses TVU One to deliver a flawless live stream of the Teqball World Cup to over 315,000 viewers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – December 3, 2018 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, today explained how its solutions enabled Future Trading to remotely control the live streaming of the recent 2nd Teqball World Cup in Reims, France.

The Teqball World Cup took place on 12th – 13th of October 2018, attracting around 3,000 fans to the stadium in Reims to watch 91 players from 42 countries take part. Future Trading used TVU One to broadcast the competition, reaching to over 315,000 online viewers to date via a dedicated Facebook page.

Teqball, one of the world’s fastest developing sports, played on a curved ping-pong like table requiring football skills. It has attracted support from a number of high-profile international football players and was recommended for inclusion in the Asian Games only three years after the sport was established. With recognition already received from the Olympic Committee of Asia – governing 45 countries from the region – FITEQ, the International Federation for Teqball, has the ambition to have the sport included in the official programme of future Olympic Games.

“For this exciting World Cup competition, our TVU One solution enabled Future Trading in Hungary to remotely control the live streaming of the action to a world-wide audience of over 315,000 through Facebook. For an ambitious sport with fast growing global status like Teqball, being able to provide a global fan-base with high-quality live action is absolutely critical,” said David Jorba, Managing Director Europe at TVU Networks. “With such high- stakes, Future Trading chose TVU solutions, based upon our heritage of reliability and innovation.”

Commenting on the success of the World Cup live streaming Gabor Szanto, Teqball Marketing Director, said: “As many of our fans first discover Teqball online, it’s vital that the online viewing experience is engaging, reliable, great quality, and shows how innovative and exciting Teqball sport is. By working with highly-regarded and leading companies such as TVU Networks and Future Trading, we can guarantee online viewers the best Teqball experience, helping us to continue to grow our sports fanbase globally.”

There were a number of challenges to overcome to ensure a reliable stream for the event, the short preparation timeline, a limited onsite team support in Reims and no additional mobile base stations nearby to secure LTE overage.

However, the team successfully delivered live streaming of the 4-hour event without a single significant loss in quality. The stream from the TVU One pack was managed remotely from a transceiver in Budapest, Hungary. It was then transported to Facebook with the IP Streaming Output software function of the transceiver using six modems of both TVU packs with Hungarian SIM cards with roaming enabled. By connecting the WiFi of the TVU One to the hotspot of the TVU 8200, the remote team was able to simultaneously use 12 LTE modems to reach the internet.

“For a fast-growing sport, coverage of major events like the Teqball World Cup is incredibly important. By deploying TVU’s innovative solutions we solved a number of technical challenges, such as the lack of additional mobile coverage for the event. We are now working closely with TVU to assist with technical guidance for the development of a broadcast reference guide for all Teqball events. This will help ensure that the sport continues to grow by providing its fan-base with high-quality coverage of the action, regardless of location,” said Peter Juhasz, Sales Engineer, Future Trading. Future Trading Ltd is an integrator partner of TVU Networks based in Hungary and the surrounding region. They provide end-to-end streaming / broadcasting services on demand with experienced staff and often work with TVU Networks devices.
