In the first NAB Show 2019 Product of the Year Awards, TVU Networks won in the AI/Machine Learning category for its TVU MediaMind Appliance – an AI-based metadata generation and search engine that speeds production performance and content reuse. This is an independently judged awards program that recognizes the most significant and promising new products and technologies exhibited during NAB.

TVU MediaMind, is a metadata generation and search engine that speeds production performance and content reuse within an existing broadcast media supply chain. The system uses a combination of time-code and AI-based facial and speech recognition to generate metadata. And an open API lets users connect directly with MAM and NLE systems. Because the MediaMind appliance utilizes both AI and time code to generate search results, it can convert audio and video into structured data in real-time. TV Technology magazine presented TVU Networks with a Best of Show Award for theTVU One 4K cellular mobile transmitter during the 2019 NAB Show. The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts on the criteria of innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry. Also introduced during the 2019 NAB Show, the 4K version of the TVU One mobile transmitter, a cellular mobile unit with the ability to transmit Ultra-HD/4Kp60 HEVC content. TVU G-Link provides an affordable and reliable way to achieve high-quality transmission using only the public Internet to deliver HD video from one location to another with half-second latency. G-Link runs on TVU MediaMind servers, with two servers paired together to form a link. The MediaMind servers are professional video hardware decoders designed for the centralized viewing, control and distribution of live video content. Within G-Link, one server acts as the transmitter/encoder and the other as the receiver/decoder. The servers support a range of input and output source types and remain securely connected regardless of the distance between them, making them ultra-reliable and deployable wherever necessary throughout the world.

The G-Link “transmitter” server takes incoming transmissions from any TVU Networks’ transmission device, as well as SDI video input, or external IP video and sends footage to the receiving server, which then outputs in SDI and IP formats in high resolution. The receiver can also output directly to social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook.

The Components

The TVU MediaMind appliance is part of a TVU SaaS model that uses the TVU MediaMind server (dual-channel VS3500/VS3100 models) as the edge server. The servers can receive video signals from any TVU Networks’ transmission device as well as process IP streams of standard transmission protocol, SDI video, and store files in any MAM system. They are professional video hardware decoders designed for the centralized viewing, control and distribution of live video content.

TVU Networks and South Korea’s KT Corp. Partner in World’s First 5G UHD Broadcast Network

Collaboration Reaffirms TVU Networks’ Commitment to the Power and Possibility of Advanced Video Capability Over 5G

 

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – March 20, 2019 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP solutions, today announced a partnership with KT Corp., the largest telecom company in South Korea, to bring UHD broadcast over KT’s 5G enterprise network. Under terms of the agreement, KT and TVU Networks will work collaboratively to establish an enterprise 5G network and related broadcast capabilities in Korea.

KT, formerly known as Korea Telecom, showcased the world’s first trial 5G services during the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games in February 2018. KT also broadcast live the last concert of K-pop group Wanna One on its IPTV service, Olleh TV, earlier this year. The broadcast was delivered through set-top boxes and mobile devices using the 5G network. KT is expected to launch the network’s full-scale commercialization in April.

This recent partnership marks a major step in TVU Networks’ continued commitment to 5G technology. The company has been at the forefront of 5G from the very beginning, with its transmitter product line supporting 5G. TVU Networks’ continuously collaborates with regional providers around the world in their 5G deployment efforts, continuously looking to implement that technology within its video over IP solutions.

TVU Networks solutions deployed to enhance RTVE coverage of Dakar Rally 2019

The high quality and reliability of TVU Nano Router and TVU Anywhere enabled RTVE to broadcast smartphone captured video live and full-screen in its coverage of Dakar Rally 2019

 

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – March 11, 2019 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, today announces that the Spanish public broadcaster RTVE deployed TVU Nano Router and TVU Anywhere to contribute SDI video over wireless networks from the remote and difficult conditions of the Dakar Rally in Latin America live to the RTVE studio in Barcelona. The Dakar Rally is a renowned off-road rally endurance race that has been going on for more than 40 years.

The IP streaming videos, which were aired live on RTVE flagship channels La 1 and Teledeporte, were shot on smartphones, transmitted over local mobile networks, and delivered as HD-SDI output feeds to RTVE’s studio. It achieved this due to the ability of the TVU Anywhere app to aggregate mobile data from the smartphone and the compact TVU Nano Router, used as an additional hotspot enabled by three SIMs.

“Just getting video back from the incredibly hostile environment of the Latin American deserts where the Dakar Rally takes place is a big achievement. However, the combination of the TVU Anywhere mobile application and the TVU Nano Router provided such high-quality video coverage of the rally. The Teqball World Cup took place on 12th – 13th of October 2018, attracting around 3,000 fans to the stadium in Reims to watch 91 players from 42 countries take part. Future Trading used TVU One to broadcast the competition, reaching to over 315,000 online viewers to date via a dedicated Facebook page.

Teqball, one of the world’s fastest developing sports, played on a curved ping-pong like table requiring football skills. It has attracted support from a number of high-profile international football players and was recommended for inclusion in the Asian Games only three years after the sport was established. With recognition already received from the Olympic Committee of Asia – governing 45 countries from the region – FITEQ, the International Federation for Teqball, has the ambition to have the sport included in the official programme of future Olympic Games.

There were a number of challenges to overcome to ensure a reliable stream for the event, the short preparation timeline, a limited onsite team support in Reims and no additional mobile base stations nearby to secure LTE overage.

However, the team successfully delivered live streaming of the 4-hour event without a single significant loss in quality. The stream from the TVU One pack was managed remotely from a transceiver in Budapest, Hungary. It was then transported to Facebook with the IP Streaming Output software function of the transceiver using six modems of both TVU packs with Hungarian SIM cards with roaming enabled. By connecting the WiFi of the TVU One to the hotspot of the TVU 8200, the remote team was able to simultaneously use 12 LTE modems to reach the internet.
