How to Broadcast on TVU
TVU Networks ushers in a new era for TV broadcasters.
TVU allows you to launch your live channel quickly, to new markets across the Internet, at little to no cost, offering broadcasters the ability to eliminate the limitations set by the traditional cable and satellite platforms. In addition, TVU's subscription, ad insertion, scheduling, and content rights management tools allow you complete control on your distribution footprint, with multiple options on channel monetization.
Setting up a New TVU Channel in 3 Steps:
Step 1: Create a Broadcasters Account here
Step 2: Choose a TVU Broadcasting Option
There are two ways to engage with TVU:
- Buy or Lease our TVU professional appliance, the TVUBD1000
- TVUSelf-Broadcast (free)
Step 3: Set Content Distribution Regions and Channel Information
With the TVUSchedule software and our distribution management tools, you determine and define when and where your content is shown. Are your content rights to Canada already spoken for? Just let TVU know; we'll geo-block any region to ensure you honor your existing distribution contracts - otherwise, the world is your oyster.
Once your new TVU channel is up - get us either a link to your TVU Guide or send us an electronic copy of your channels program to make sure your viewers know what's coming up next.
TVU networks offers 2 broadcasting options:
TVUBD1000 - Professional Broadcast Appliance
TVUself-Broadcast
Option 1: TVUBD1000 - Professional Broadcast Appliance
The TVUBD1000 is a standalone, plug and play professional broadcasting appliance, available for purchase or lease.
With the BD1000 you not only get a turnkey solution to broadcasting on the Internet - you also get personalized service and support from TVU.
The TVUBD1000 offers you the choice of using either
- a live analog/digital input signal,
- a pre-compressed signal, or
- pre-recorded content.
We build your customized TVU BD1000, coordinating with your technical staff and customizing the appliance to your specific needs.
We work with you to determine what type of connectors will be used (BNC, RCA, or Coaxial) and what type of signal is being transmitted (SDI with embedded audio or analog).
Re: bandwidth, TVU recommends that you have a dedicated line of at least a 1.5 mbps per appliance to provide the best quality channel.
We then ascertain what ports will need to be opened and what external IP address will be allocated for the appliance.
The normal turnaround time to build and test your system once technical coordination is complete, is a 2 week timeframe.
Installation is a snap, requiring roughly 15 minutes. You simply install the system in your rack - and then turn it on. TVU follows up from there to make sure that everything is working, and monitors your system 24/7.

Option 2: TVUself-Broadcast
This self-service mode is recommended for broadcasters who wish to have complete control in creating and managing a TVU channel on their own machine.
