NAB 2017: TVU Networks and AP to Demonstrate Advanced Newsroom Workflow

New Metadata-based, Software-Defined Workflow Automatically Links and Accelerates Ingest of Recorded Content for Stories

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – April 11, 2017 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, announced today that TVU and the Associated Press (AP) at NAB 2017 will showcase a new, integrated newsroom video content acquisition workflow developed through the two companies’ technology partnership. The new metadata-based workflow streamlines the direct linking of media content to specific news story assignments at the point of acquisition. The TVU Alert and AP ENPS integration automates and accelerates the transfer and ingest of the linked content to the studio and within newsroom production solutions.

The new workflow delivers greater efficiency for newsrooms. An assignment with associated metadata is created within the AP News Production System (ENPS) and sent using TVU Alert to field crews equipped with TVU Networks transmitters. The automated message from TVU Alert triggers the Progressive Download feature in TVU transmitters to create a high-resolution mirror image of the  camcorder’s content on the TVU transmitter (via SDI connection) as the story’s audio and video content is recorded at the camera.

The recorded video content, with matching timecode and the unique metadata for the assigned story, automatically and immediately transfers to the studio. Once in the studio, the location of the content and its associated metadata is reported to ENPS and placed in the rundown so that the relevant content is immediately available for editing and playout.

“We’re excited to continue our technology development partnership with AP to deliver advanced workflow enhancements to our mutual customers. Our newest integration effort between TVU Alert and AP’s ENPS will save newsrooms significant time and effort when it comes to newsgathering operations,” said Matt McEwen, VP of Product Management, TVU Networks. “The new workflow is designed to improve the efficiency and speed of news content acquisition through automation and a reduction in the need for human intervention, while also providing greater flexibility.”

A key feature from TVU utilized in the integration is the new Progressive Download function. With Progressive Download, when a user records content to an SDI-based camcorder, a mirror image of that content is recorded in high-resolution to the TVU transmitter’s internal SSD. The camcorder’s start/stop triggers are transmitted over SDI ensuring the timecode on the acquired content matches that of the camcorder’s own media. TVU’s mirrored content is immediately transferred at high speed via the transmitter’s aggregated link as a file to a TVU Transceiver video decoder at the studio in an editable QuickTime file format, making it immediately available for transfer to editing solutions.

“AP ENPS is always looking for new ways to help news people get the information and resources they need in the most efficient way possible. ENPS working with TVU’s Progressive Download eliminates tedious busywork and file manipulation for the producer in the newsroom and the crew in the field and gets the video on the air or on the web as quickly as possible,” said Phil Avner, Director of Development, Broadcast, Associated Press.

With the TVU and AP integration, there is no need to manually transfer recorded clips or “tape feeds” from the field to the studio or wait for the original camera media to arrive at the studio. It also eliminates the need to manually ingest and log content at the studio, increasing operational efficiency through a reduction in workflow steps.

TVU and AP will be demonstrating the TVU Alert and AP ENPS integration at NAB 2017 in booth #C3739.

NAB 2017: TVU Networks to Introduce TVU Router – a 200Mbps Virtual Internet Cable

Advanced Wireless Technology Enables Any Place, Any Time Access to Secure, Reliable, High-Speed Broadband

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – April 6, 2017 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, will introduce a new solution for secure, reliable and high-speed internet connectivity to connected devices from remote locations. TVU Router provides over 200Mbps of Internet connectivity from virtually any remote location and acts as a network accelerator. With TVU Router as a portable field access point, users can transfer and receive files, stream video, search the web, utilize any IP connected device or service to pass data and more for a high speed, reliable and secure data connection.

TVU Router will be shown within TVU Networks booth (#C3739) during NAB 2017, which runs from April 22 through the 27th at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

“TVU Router was developed from working with our customers closely and gaining a strong understanding of their workflow. There are many instances in which moving large data files from the field to the studio are needed but not practical due to a lack of high-speed broadband access. TVU Router solves this by creating a wireless Ethernet cable-like connection between the two locations that’s secure, reliable and high-speed,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks.

“While TVU Router has obvious applications for the broadcast industry, we’ve already seen strong interest from other industries such as sports that also have a need to move large data quickly from remote locations to a central location,” Shen continued. “With TVU Router, it’s like having the dependable, high-speed Internet connection you enjoy in your office out in the field.”

TVU Router allows for easy sending and receiving of IP-based data from a remote location to any other location using the Internet. For example, news reporters producing stories in the field may wish to upload completed news stories containing video that were edited in the field to the station for broadcast. Large file transfers that use a single, standard cellular connection are typically unreliable and too slow. Or multiple users may require reliable internet connectivity to effectively access hosted devices such as news production systems, media asset management systems, and automation systems. Multiple IP connected devices at the remote site may also require reliable network connectivity such as teleprompters, IP cameras, and remote cameras.

TVU Router is also a software option for TVUPack and TVU One. Current TVU customers can easily take advantage of TVU Router without the need for additional hardware or data services.

This NAB marks the company’s first in the Central Hall. TVU is moving from its traditional location in the South Upper Hall of the LVCC to the Central Hall. This hall will become TVU’s home at the LVCC for future NAB shows.

Company to Broaden Its Video Ecosystem With New Offerings In Video Acquisition, Transmission, Production, Distribution and Social Media

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – February 16, 2017 – TVU Networks will concentrate its efforts at this year’s NAB convention around demonstrating its hardware and software ecosystem for IP video. A full range of current and new TVU solutions, including the MLink TE4500 H.265/HEVC rack-mount encoder, TVU RPS (Remote Production System), TVU One mobile IP transmitter, and TVU Anywhere app will be on display in TVU’s NAB booth (C3739) this April. TVU will make its first appearance in the Central Hall this year, moving from its traditional location in South Hall. NAB 2017 runs from April 22 through the 27th at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

Several soon-to-be-announced solutions supporting live video content will be introduced at NAB 2017, including new additional support for the H.265/HEVC (high-efficiency video codec) compression standard, which the company recently announced at NAB Show New York. “This is a very exciting time for those of us who specialize in IP-based video solutions,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “The advancements inherent in the H.265/HEVC algorithm are a game-changer in terms of more efficient compression, requiring less data transmission. This year’s NAB will highlight our efforts in that area as well as show our continued commitment to live video production with improvements based on customer feedback across our entire product line.”

Among the H.265 compatible products on hand in the NAB booth will be the MLink TE4500. The TVU MLink live video uplink transmitter brings cellular 3G/4G LTE transmission capabilities to satellite and microwave vehicles, vans and trucks. SMG Successfully Delivers Live Video Coverage of 2016 Tour of Taihu Lake Cycling Race In Severe Weather Conditions

Shanghai Media Group Uses Newly Acquired TVU Portable Live Video Transmission Solution

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – November 17, 2016 – TVU Networks IP video transmission solutions were used by one of China’s largest media organizations, Shanghai Media Group (SMG), to successfully deliver live video coverage of the 2016 Tour of Taihu Lake Cycling Race in severe weather conditions.

The Tour of Taihu Lake is a staged cycling race (several races ridden consecutively) held in the Jiangsu Province of China. In 2010, the first edition of the race was just one stage and one day. Six years later, the race has grown tremendously both in global popularity and length of the competition. For many teams, the highly-anticipated Tour of Taihu is the final race of the 2016 season.

For exclusive pre-race interviews and coverage of all seven stages of the race, SMG deployed multiple ultra-compact TVU One portable transmitters from various locations throughout the race. TVU One was used extensively to cover the competition and capture and deliver live HD video footage in real-time, delivering broadcast picture quality despite changing bandwidth limitations. On the second day of the race, a dense fog severely limited visibility, preventing helicopter-supported microwave transmission, and TVU One was relied upon for the entire day’s live coverage.

“Despite unpredictable weather, erratic availability of dependable cellular connections and on-the-go video shots, TVU One consistently delivered outstanding picture quality for our viewers,” said Mr. Wang Ting, Director of SMG Technology Center. “The Tour of Taihu is a marquee cycling event in China, and we strive to provide unique coverage from different positions on the ground and in the air.”

“TVU One played a crucial role in this coverage, particularly when dense fog prevented the helicopter – which was used as microwave relay – from taking off. TVU One was able to fulfill all the video transmission needs as well as meet the stable and superior picture quality demanded by SMG.” Said Mr. Ling Chen, SMG Business Director.

TVU NETWORKS TO SHOWCASE FULL LINE OF IP BASED VIDEO SOLUTIONS AT NAB SHOW NEW YORK

Leader in IP Live Video Technology to Demonstrate Newest Transmission, Cloud Based Management and Video Production Offerings

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – October 26, 2016 – TVU Networks announces that it will showcase its latest IP-based live video solutions at the upcoming NAB Show New York, including the company’s new MLink TE4500 H.265/HEVC and 4K encoding solution and TVU RPS (Remote Production System), as well as its two cloud-based workflow solutions, TVU Alert and TVU Command Center. Taking place November 9-10 at the Javits Convention Center, TVU Networks will display its full range of transmission, management, production and distribution solutions in Booth #725.

The MLink TE4500 H.265/HEVC and 4K encoding solution is a rack-mount encoder that transmits video using HEVC video compression and Inverse StatMux Plus advanced IP video technology. The MLink TE4500 delivers the same high quality picture that’s currently available with TVU’s award-winning cellular IP-based live video transmitters but with more efficient compression, requiring less data transmission.

TVU RPS allows for the production of a live, synchronized multi-camera program in a remote location using mainly a broadcaster’s existing control room in their studio and a public Internet connection from the field. The TVU RPS transmitter encodes up to six synchronized SDI sources and transmits high-quality and low-latency IP video from the remote location to a studio-based receiver, and the receiver outputs six synchronized SDI outputs. By utilizing existing in-house production staff and equipment at the studio, a broadcaster no longer needs its own production crew in the field, saving significant cost in producing a remote, multi-camera live shot.

Both TVU Alert and TVU Command are cloud-based solutions that help broadcasters control get to air first with live video from the most important breaking stories. TVU Alert makes it quick and simple to send mission-critical alerts, such as breaking news, anywhere throughout a news organization to and from any TVU edge device. TVU Command Center allows central management and control of all the TVU transmitters, receivers, and services within a group from virtually anywhere.

TVU Grid will also be shown in the TVU Networks’ NAB Show New York booth. TVU Grid is an IP video distribution, routing and switching system that gives broadcasters the ability to seamlessly switch live IP video content and share live streams between remote locations. TVU Grid removes the walls from broadcast stations, empowering users to distribute or collect content with just the click of a button.

TVU Networks will also showcase its flagship TVU One live mobile IP newsgathering transmitter – a compact solution that delivers high-quality IP video transmission performance and features the company’s patented Inverse Statmux Plus (IS+) transmission algorithm to transmit dependable HD quality video with less than one second latency. It’s available with embedded modems and can transmit simultaneously over multiple mediums, including cellular, microwave, MIMO microwave mesh, Ka-band and Ku-band satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet.

Other popular offerings in the company’s product line include the TVU Anywhere app, which turns an iPhone or Android device into a live video transmitter, and the TVU MLink live video uplink transmitter, which brings cellular 3G/4G LTE transmission capabilities to satellite and microwave vehicles, vans and trucks.
