CCW 2015: TVU Networks To Showcase IP-Based Video Solutions and Advantages of Inverse StatMux Technology

Global technology leader in live, mobile newsgathering to demonstrate ultra-compact TVU One IP newsgathering transmitter

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – October 20, 2015 – TVU Networks®, the global technology leader in live IP video solutions, will showcase its popular video-over-IP solutions at the Content & Communications World (CCW) expo, being held November 11th and 12th at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. In its CCW booth (#661) will be the TVU One mobile IP newsgathering transmitter and the company’s flagship TVUPack TM8200 mobile uplink backpack transmitter. Just introduced at NAB this April, TVU One is already in full production and shipping in large quantity.

TVU Networks provides a full portfolio of video-over-IP solutions designed to give broadcasters innovative, flexible and reliable tools to acquire live video content from anywhere and distribute it to anywhere.

TVU One features the same proprietary Inverse StatMux Plus (IS+) technology, designed to deliver a live HD-quality picture with sub-second latency, as other popular TVU solutions, such as the MLink fixed rack IP-based video transmitter and TVUPack mobile uplink backpack transmitter. Inverse StatMux Plus enables the transmission of dependable HD quality video with less than one second latency through multiple transmission mediums including cellular, satellite, microwave, MIMO Mesh, WiFi, Ethernet and BGAN – even in the most bandwidth challenged environments including a moving vehicle.

“CCW is the premier broadcast show on the East Coast of the U.S.,” said Eric Chang, Vice President of Marketing, TVU Networks. “The New York City location is convenient for many of our customers, and it gives us an opportunity to meet with them, including those who were unable to attend NAB or IBC. And we’re able to showcase new products like TVU One, as well as our full line of IP video solutions. We look forward to exhibiting at CCW again this year showing how our latest innovations can enhance live video acquisition, transmission and distribution.”

TVU One is the company’s fifth-generation live mobile IP newsgathering transmitter. It delivers the same transmission resiliency, performance, picture quality and sub-second latency of a full-size backpack transmitter in a substantially smaller and lighter form factor. TVU One features TVU Networks’ patented Inverse Statmux Plus (IS+) transmission algorithm, Smart VBR technology, and the TVU.264 video codec. It’s available with embedded modems and can transmit simultaneously over multiple mediums, including cellular, microwave, MIMO microwave mesh, Ka-band and Ku-band satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet.

The TVUPack TM8200 mobile uplink backpack transmitter combines TVU’s proprietary IS+ advanced Forward Error Correction algorithm with the TVU264 H.264 encoding engine, to enable users to maximize the bandwidth available in each network connection and transmit the most stable picture possible. It supports multiple 3G/4G LTE, microwave, satellite, WiFi and BGAN data connections. The TM8200 is also available in two alternative versions with integrated Vislink hybrid microwave and MIMO Mesh microwave.

Other products in the TVU line up include: the MLink cellular 3G/4G LTE, satellite and microwave live video uplink transmitter; TVU Anywhere – an application that turns laptops and smart devices into transmitters; TVU Grid, a scalable IP-based video switching, routing and distribution solution that enables broadcasters to acquire live video from different sources and distribute it to other news stations; and TVUMe, an online marketplace for broadcasters to find and purchase live or recorded video content online from other broadcasters, freelancers and independent production crews from around the world.

Already in use by hundreds of leading broadcast organizations around the world, the TVU Networks family of IP transmission solutions gives broadcasters and organizations a powerful and reliable tool to distribute live video content to broadcast, online and mobile platforms. The TVU Networks suite of solutions has been used to deliver professional-quality live HD footage of a number of important events around the world including the World Cup, both Summer and Winter Olympic Games, U.S. presidential elections, natural disasters, the 2013 Papal conclave, the Super Bowl, the 2015 Papal visit to the United States and several international sporting events. TVBS, a nationwide cable TV network in Taiwan, has been using TVUPack cellular uplink backpacks since 2010. TVBS will expand their mobile newsgathering capabilities and breaking news coverage by also deploying TVU One, which provides the same industry-leading transmission resiliency, performance, video picture quality and sub-second latency of a full-size TVUPack backpack transmitter, but in the most powerful and smallest form factor IP video transmitter available. Additionally, reporters for TVBS will use TVU Anywhere, a smart device-based app that allows broadcasters to turn their personal smartphone into a high quality, low latency professional video transmitter to capture live news as it’s happening, from virtually anywhere.

“At TVBS, we have built our reputation for over 20 years as the first and the leading 24-hour news network of Taiwan. We have been using TVUPack for over 5 of those years and have been very impressed with not only TVU’s solutions, but also with the relationship they have established and maintained with us throughout the years,” said Bruce Lin, Manager, Engineering. “We have evaluated other products and in order to achieve the kind of agility, convenience and portability we were in search of, we knew that the newest innovation from our longtime IP video solutions provider was the best selection.”

Added Lin, “We were drawn to the TVU One because of its portability, incredible video picture quality provided by Inverse StatMux Plus and the ease with which the TVU One operates. We will continue to use TVUPack but will now have even greater agility when rushing to capture breaking news, as we’ll be armed and ready with the super small and lightweight, TVU One, as well as all of the smartphones and devices equipped with the TVU Anywhere app. The TVU Anywhere app will be very useful for our New Media department, as it increases our ability to capture news from anywhere. Prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards Live Streamed by TVU Networks

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – October 1, 2015 – While the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTNDA) has been honoring outstanding electronic journalism with its Edward R. The event will be held on October 12, starting at 7:00pm in New York City’s renowned Gotham Hall. The Radio Television Digital News Association will honor national and regional radio, television, and online news organizations with Murrow Awards. Stories ranging from investigative reports of injured undocumented construction workers in Texas, profiles of families with transgender children in Brooklyn, to late-breaking news on violence in the Gaza strip have won awards this year.

For a full list of this year’s winners, please click on the link below: http://www.rtdnaedwardrmurrowawards.org/winners/

In a first for the Edward R. Murrow Awards, student journalism will also be honored. “With TVU providing live transmission services, we’re 100 percent confident our live streaming coverage will be of the highest quality. Our online video broadcast is a very important part of the event. It enables people who may not be able to make the gala to see and be a part of this truly special night in journalism history,” said Mike Cavender, Executive Director, RTDNA.

“We’re proud to be aligned with the RTNDA and firmly support its mission to promote excellence in journalism,” said Eric Chang, Vice President of Marketing, TVU Networks. “The Edward R. Murrow Awards are a prime example of what the RTNDA is all about – honoring the nation’s top news organizations for their compelling and often extremely difficult work. Having our TVUPack live stream this extraordinary event for public, online viewing is our honor.”

The award-winning TVUPack is a portable backpack style IP newsgathering solution that enables broadcasters to capture and broadcast live HD video of interviews and events over multiple cellular, satellite, microwave, WiFi, WiMax, and BGAN connections. Using Inverse StatMux Plus technology to ensure the highest-quality signal possible, TVUPack enables organizations to broadcast live HD video from virtually any location in the world. The TVUPack TM8200 is also available with optional integrated MIMO Microwave for challenging cellular bandwidth environments.

The TVUPack 8200 also streamed the Paul White and John F. Hogan Awards ceremony during the RTNDA’s Excellence in Journalism conference held September 19th in Orlando. The event honored noted journalists Leslie Stahl (receiving this year’s Paul White award) and Pierre Thomas (receiving the John F. Hogan award.) The entire ceremony was streamed exclusively to the RTNDA’s Ustream channel in real-time. The video is available for on-demand viewing on RTDNA’s website at www.rtdna.org.

Amsterdam, Netherlands – September 14, 2015 – TVU Networks, the global technology leader in live IP video solutions, today announced that European Broadcast Development (EBD), the leading service company in the media and television broadcast market in Italy, is switching to TVU in a multi-year deal for all of its live mobile video content services to Italian broadcasters, replacing all similar current equipment in favor of TVU. EBD will deploy the award-winning TVUPack backpack style transmitter, TVU One, TVU’s newest ultra-compact mobile transmitter and TVU MLink, TVU’s vehicle mounted mobile, microwave and satellite transmitter. The deal arrangement was completed with the assistance of Professional Show, TVU’s official reseller in Italy.

EBD consists of a pool of companies that specialize in broadcast, providing complete and integrated services. EBD works with over 400 partners across Italy and has offices in Milan, Rome and Genova, Venezia, Torino, Bologna, Firenze, Napoli, Bari and Palermo. In addition to its comprehensive services, EBD invests every year a large amount of its revenue in research and development of new services and technologies.

None of them are able to match the performance and picture quality that TVU’s products can deliver. We are happy to be consolidating to TVU for cellular uplink to allow us to effectively service Italian broadcasters and look forward to a long partnership with TVU. With TVU we started a deal with the aim and commitment to develop together the best and up-to-date system to provide the most effective and reliable services to our customers.”

As a large and well-respected provider of end-to-end services to Italian broadcasters, EBD requires partners that can scale and provide strong support so that it can effectively service its customers. We are well-equipped to handle EBD’s needs because we have many broadcast customers of all sizes around the world and understand their unique requirements,” said Kris Hill, Sales Director Europe, TVU Networks.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – July 28, 2015 – TVU Networks, the global technology leader in live mobile IP newsgathering solutions, will demonstrate several of its offerings at the upcoming Texas Association of Broadcasters (TAB) convention at the Renaissance Austin Hotel August 5-6. TVU Networks will exhibit in booth #45 at the show.

The company’s solutions will also be represented by partner company Frontline Communications. The mobile truck design and manufacturer will exhibit at TAB (Booths 122 and 123) with TVU’s MLink live video uplink transmitter operating in its Chevrolet Traverse Ka band mobile ENG vehicle.

“TAB is one of the premiere regional U.S. broadcast shows for us,” stated Eric Chang, Vice President of Marketing, TVU Networks. “We have key customers in Texas, and TAB is a great opportunity to meet with them, discuss their business overall, their day-to-day implementation of our systems, and show them the latest updates and new products.”

TAB attendees visiting the TVU Networks’ booth can see demonstrations of the TVU One IP newsgathering video transmitter; MLink cellular 3G/4G LTE, satellite and microwave live video uplink transmitter; TVUPack TM8200 mobile uplink backpack transmitter; and the TVU Anywhere application that turns laptops and smart devices into transmitters.

TVU One is the company’s fifth-generation live mobile IP newsgathering transmitter. It delivers the same transmission resiliency, performance, picture quality and sub-second latency of a full-size backpack transmitter in a more than 90% smaller and lighter form factor. TVU One features TVU Networks’ patented IS+ (Inverse Statmux+) transmission protocol, Smart VBR technology, and the TVU.264 video codec. It comes standard with up to six embedded LTE modems and can transmit simultaneously over up to ten connections, including cellular, microwave, MIMO microwave mesh, Ka-band and Ku-band satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet.

MLink is a cellular 3G/4G LTE, satellite and microwave live video uplink transmitter designed for fixed deployment in vehicles or in a studio. It is one RU in size and can aggregate transmission signals from multiple transmission mediums simultaneously. The TVU MLink also uses the same proprietary IS+ transmission protocols as the company’s award-winning TVUPack solutions to deliver a dependable picture with sub-second latency. MLink’s full integration with satellite and microwave transmission systems enables transmission of a broadcast-quality HD signal, regardless of cellular network conditions.

It supports up to eight 3G/4G LTE, microwave, satellite, WiFi and BGAN data connections. The TM8200 is also available in two alternative versions with integrated Vislink hybrid microwave and MIMO Mesh microwave.

Designed to turn a portable smart device or laptop into an instant transmitter, TVU Anywhere enables organizations to capture and transmit footage from anywhere at anytime. TVU Anywhere uses a device’s 3G/4G/LTE wireless connection and WiFi, when available, to transmit live video to a TVU receiver or transceiver. It aggregates the available bandwidth to ensure a resilient transmission.  Through an easy-to-use interface, the best frame rate and resolution can be selected, camera focused, and flash enabled. Key status information such as real-time transmission rate and live streaming time are also accessible on-screen.

Already in use by hundreds of leading broadcast organizations around the world, the TVU family of IP transmission solutions gives broadcasters a powerful and reliable tool to distribute live video content to broadcast, online, and mobile platforms. ArrowData and TVU Networks Partner to Deliver Drone-flying Service with Live Video Transmission

Special FAA Exemption for AeroJournalism Combined with Cellular Mobile Uplink is a Game Changer for Electronic Newsgathering

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – July 23, 2015 – ArrowData, an aerial data services company that specializes in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s – or drones) for electronic newsgathering (AeroJournalism), and TVU Networks, the global technology leader in live mobile IP newsgathering solutions, today announced the launch of a UAV service that provides news broadcasters with the ability to transmit unique live aerial views from ArrowData’s drones in full HD with sub-second latency using TVU’s portable cellular transmitters.

ArrowData has received a special waiver from the FAA to operate drones for electronic newsgathering or AeroJournalism – the first and only such FAA 333 waver provided to a private company. By combining ArrowData’s drone piloting expertise and TVU’s award-winning mobile cellular IP technology, broadcasters can now deliver news coverage from unique vantage points not possible from traditional ground level camera views. In addition, broadcasters can easily incorporate the AeroJournalism service into their current video acquisition workflow since the drone flying and live video transmission is handled together.

“This partnership gives us a tremendous advantage in this emerging industry,” said James Fleitz, Vice President of ArrowData in Las Vegas. “We provide the dynamic shots from drones, and TVU is the perfect answer for transmitting that video.”

An ArrowData drone was used recently for live reporting and weather shots for a large-market news broadcast. “This is a game changer for those in the news business. There are many questions in the industry right now about how best to use drones. This partnership allows us to answer those questions and begin implementing AeroJournalism in newsrooms right away,” said Ron Futrell, Sales and Marketing Director for ArrowData and veteran TV newscaster for more than 3 decades.

“We’re delighted to partner with ArrowData to bring their drone piloting services together with TVU’s live uplink transmission capabilities,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “It’s a true win/win for broadcasters. They can leave the capturing of aerial views in the capable hands of ArrowData personnel while receiving live, low-latency HD video from a TVU mobile cellular uplink transmitter.”

Already in use by hundreds of leading broadcast organizations around the world, the TVU Networks family of IP transmission solutions gives broadcasters a powerful and reliable tool to distribute live video content to broadcast, online, and mobile platforms.
