Taiwan’s First 24-Hour News Network Selects TVU Networks to Expand Mobile IP Video Transmission Capabilities

TVBS Adds Ultra-Lightweight TVU One as well as App-Based TVU Anywhere to Suite of TVU Networks IP-Based Video Solutions Deployed in Taiwan

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – October 6, 2015 – TVU Networks, the global technology leader in live IP video solutions, today announced that Television Broadcasts Satellite (TVBS), the first 24-hour news network in Taiwan, is expanding their TVU Networks suite of IP-based live video broadcast solutions by deploying multiple units of TVU One, TVU’s newest, ultra-compact mobile transmitter and TVU Anywhere, TVU’s smartphone-based app which broadcasts live from a mobile device with the push of a button.

TVBS, a nationwide cable TV network in Taiwan, has been using TVUPack cellular uplink backpacks since 2010. TVBS will expand their mobile newsgathering capabilities and breaking news coverage by also deploying TVU One, which provides the same industry-leading transmission resiliency, performance, video picture quality and sub-second latency of a full-size TVUPack backpack transmitter, but in the most powerful and smallest form factor IP video transmitter available. Additionally, reporters for TVBS will use TVU Anywhere, a smart device-based app that allows broadcasters to turn their personal smartphone into a high quality, low latency professional video transmitter to capture live news as it’s happening, from virtually anywhere.

“At TVBS, we have built our reputation for over 20 years as the first and the leading 24-hour news network of Taiwan. We have been using TVUPack for over 5 of those years and have been very impressed with not only TVU’s solutions, but also with the relationship they have established and maintained with us throughout the years,” said Bruce Lin, Manager, Engineering. “We have evaluated other products and in order to achieve the kind of agility, convenience and portability we were in search of, we knew that the newest innovation from our longtime IP video solutions provider was the best selection.”

Added Lin, “We were drawn to the TVU One because of its portability, incredible video picture quality provided by Inverse StatMux Plus and the ease with which the TVU One operates. We will continue to use TVUPack but will now have even greater agility when rushing to capture breaking news, as we’ll be armed and ready with the super small and lightweight, TVU One, as well as all of the smartphones and devices equipped with the TVU Anywhere app. The TVU Anywhere app will be very useful for our New Media department, as it increases our ability to capture news from anywhere. We are confident that through our relationship with TVU Networks, we have the best mobile live transmission quality in the industry.”

“We are honored that TVBS has chosen to expand their TVU wireless uplink solutions to our newest innovations. As a very respected news network, both in Asia and around the world, TVBS needs the highest quality live video solutions to continue to produce the very best broadcasts. We are able to equip TVBS with precisely what they need and with the convenience they require. This is a prime example of our continued commitment to Taiwan broadcasters and also enhancing the flexibility and capabilities of broadcasters around the world,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks.

TVU One is a fifth generation, live, mobile IP newsgathering transmitter based on the same reliability, HD picture performance, and under one second latency of a full-size TVUPack backpack transmitter, but in a substantially smaller, lightweight and ultra-compact form factor. TVU One also features TVU’s proprietary Inverse StatMux Plus (IS+) for a broadcast quality picture even in a moving vehicle. With TVU One, broadcasters can fully leverage the versatility that a small, lightweight IP video transmitter brings in the field, without sacrificing performance, feature functionality or picture quality.

The event will be held on October 12, starting at 7:00pm in New York City’s renowned Gotham Hall. The Radio Television Digital News Association will honor national and regional radio, television, and online news organizations with Murrow Awards. In a first for the Edward R. Murrow Awards, student journalism will also be honored. Our online video broadcast is a very important part of the event. It enables people who may not be able to make the gala to see and be a part of this truly special night in journalism history,” said Mike Cavender, Executive Director, RTDNA.

“We’re proud to be aligned with the RTNDA and firmly support its mission to promote excellence in journalism,” said Eric Chang, Vice President of Marketing, TVU Networks. “The Edward R. Murrow Awards are a prime example of what the RTNDA is all about – honoring the nation’s top news organizations for their compelling and often extremely difficult work. Having our TVUPack live stream this extraordinary event for public, online viewing is our honor.”

The award-winning TVUPack is a portable backpack style IP newsgathering solution that enables broadcasters to capture and broadcast live HD video of interviews and events over multiple cellular, satellite, microwave, WiFi, WiMax, and BGAN connections. Using Inverse StatMux Plus technology to ensure the highest-quality signal possible, TVUPack enables organizations to broadcast live HD video from virtually any location in the world. The TVUPack TM8200 is also available with optional integrated MIMO Microwave for challenging cellular bandwidth environments.

The TVUPack 8200 also streamed the Paul White and John F. Hogan Awards ceremony during the RTNDA’s Excellence in Journalism conference held September 19th in Orlando. The event honored noted journalists Leslie Stahl (receiving this year’s Paul White award) and Pierre Thomas (receiving the John F. Hogan award.) The entire ceremony was streamed exclusively to the RTNDA’s Ustream channel in real-time. The video is available for on-demand viewing on RTDNA’s website at www.rtdna.org.

We are happy to be consolidating to TVU for cellular uplink to allow us to effectively service Italian broadcasters and look forward to a long partnership with TVU. TVUMe enables broadcasters to find and purchase live or recorded video content online from other broadcasters, freelancers and independent production crews from around the world.

The revolutionary concept behind TVUMe means that users can sell or trade recorded video content and sell live video streams via a simple interface allowing broadcasters and content owners to leverage their assets quickly and efficiently.

TVUMe has also been designed to allow production crews to list production services and equipment for future booking, giving broadcasters access to professional video crews around the globe at the desk-top.

With TVUMe’s interactive map feature, broadcasters can search for content being produced in a particular location and then acquire the live video content from camera crews already shooting on site, allowing breaking news events to get to air faster.

At IBC 2015, TVU will demonstrate several new features of the video online marketplace for the first time. This includes the ability for a user to click one button to choose to share their video content with just one party as an Exclusive or multiple interested parties using the Multi-distribute option. In addition, users are now able to instantly share live video content with others through social media by simply sharing a unique URL. Viewers will be able to see the shared video without needing to log into TVUMe.

TVUMe contributors can download the free TVU Anywhere app on iOS, Android and Windows, to instantly stream live video to the TVUMe marketplace. TVU Anywhere turns a smart mobile device into a video transmitter and has the ability to aggregate all available bandwidth from cellular and WiFi connections, ensuring resilient transmission for a superior picture. TVUMe is fully integrated with TVU Anywhere, allowing news-gathering teams to communicate directly with the user in real time.

Paul Shen, CEO VP of TVU Networks said, “TVUMe expands the ability for broadcasters to deliver more live news coverage to viewers from more places and faster. TVUMe’s ability to facilitate real-time transactions between broadcasters and video content providers from a single web interface can capture and deliver breaking news with a click of a button. TVU Networks Expands Korea’s Leading Network’s Coverage of Historic Inter-Continental Railway Project with Global Rental Program

Global Rental Program Provides TVUPacks to South Korea’s Leading 24-Hour News Network for Eurasia Friendship Express Railway Project

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – September 8, 2015 – TVU Networks, the global technology leader in live IP video solutions, today announced that TVUPack IP video transmission solutions were used by South Korea’s leading broadcast network, YTN, to capture and deliver live video content from the recently completed Eurasia Friendship Railway Project.

During the 14,400km journey through multiple countries, YTN used TVU Networks’ Global Rental Program to acquire TVU Networks’ mobile uplink backpack solution to broadcast in real-time to viewers in South Korea. Through TVU’s Rental Program, YTN’s team was able to report live from Vladivostok, Moscow, Warsaw and Berlin.

TVU Networks played a critical role in broadcasting this highly symbolic, inter-continental express train project. TVU deployed additional TVUPacks to longtime partner, YTN, through TVU Network’s flexible and convenient Global Rental Program. Through this program, YTN was able to ensure the highest level of transmission from various key stops throughout the journey, regardless of the changing bandwidth constraints and while providing the most optimal picture quality.

“TVU Global Rental Program was fundamentally important to YTN’s coverage of the Eurasia express train journey. To capture footage from each of the key stops along the lengthy journey, we required additional TVUPacks,” said Hyungil Park, YTN Technical Planning Team Manager. “We have been using TVUPacks to transmit news from all over South Korea since 2011, and we knew would could rely on TVU for this purpose, as well. TVUPacks are made for this sort of mobile broadcasting and this was such a large and important event, we could not risk using a product we weren’t confident with,” Park said. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) co-sponsored this ambitious railway project meant to promote peace and unity throughout Eurasia, and we had a firm understanding of how important this was to the people of South Korea and how essential our role was in bringing them closer to the news,” Park explained.

“TVU was truly a loyal partner to us as we embarked on this project. We relied on TVU Networks in four crucial cities throughout the 20-day expedition. This was of vital importance, as the viewers and people of South Korea relied on YTN to provide the most accurate, real-time news of this unprecedented journey. This was undoubtedly the most cost-effective and seamless way to provide this sort of coverage. TVU provided the necessary packs and equipment to ensure we would have the best connection, strongest signal and highest picture quality to report back to our loyal viewers in South Korea,” said Park.

Through its simple one-button operation and ability to simultaneously transmit over multiple combinations of cellular, WiFi, microwave and satellite links, TVUPack enables broadcasters to deliver live HD video from practically any location. TVUPack also offers broadcasters TVU’s proprietary Inverse StatMux Plus (IS+) transmission protocol to ensure enhanced resilience and superior picture quality in fluctuating bandwidth conditions, as well as the ability to transmit HD video with sub-second latency.

TVU Networks will be presenting its full suite of live, IP video solutions at IBC, September 11-15, 2015 in Amsterdam.
