NAB 2017: TVU Networks Introduces H.265/HEVC-Supported Mobile IP Newsgathering Transmitter

TVU One Mobile Uplink Solution With HEVC Sets New Bar With 0.5 Second Latency and Greater Efficiency Through Less Bandwidth Use; Units Already Shipping, With Orders From Multiple Customers

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – April 20, 2017 – TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, announced today the immediate availability of its new TVU One with HEVC mobile IP newsgathering transmitter, which supports the H.265/HEVC video compression standard. TVU One with HEVC will be shown for the first time in its booth #C3739 in the Central Hall during NAB 2017 in Las Vegas next week.

The introduction of TVU One with HEVC follows the October 2016 introduction of the rackmount MLink TE4500 H.265/HEVC and 4K encoding solution at the NAB Show New York convention. The MLink live video uplink provides cellular 4G LTE transmission capabilities to satellite and microwave vehicles, vans and trucks.

The TVU One with HEVC cellular mobile solution uses both HEVC video compression and TVU’s patented Inverse Statmux Plus (IS+) transmission algorithm – which transmits HD quality video with half-second latency. TVU One with HEVC is available with embedded modems and can transmit simultaneously over multiple connections, including cellular, microwave, satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet.

“IP-based video delivery is advancing at a breakneck pace right now, and our continuing rollout of H.265 supported video solutions is intended to take advantage of the improved compression and data management inherent in HEVC encoding,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “The compression is much more efficient, particularly when combined with our IS+ technology. By taking advantage of both, the TVU One with HEVC sets a new standard for latency of just 0.5 seconds – even in situations where transmission is being done from inside a moving vehicle. It uses less data, with less overhead and performs with even greater stability than ever before.”

The TVU One with HEVC is already shipping, with orders for the compact, HEVC-compatible IP transmitters from the nationwide Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) network. The New York bureau of TBS and RKB Mainichi Broadcasting Corp. (RKB) – a sub key station of the TBS network based in Fukuoka, Japan – have ordered multiple TVU One with HEVC units for their field operations.

TBS has been a TVU customer since 2013, when they started using TVU for mobile newsgathering. In January of last year, they began using TVU One mobile transmitters at network headquarters and international bureaus, including New York City, Washington, DC, London, Beijing, Bangkok, Seoul, and Moscow, for mission-critical news gathering.

“We’ve always been impressed with the TVU’s stability, IS+ technology, fast start up, and the company’s 24/7 customer support,” said Mr. Shiho Akagawa, News Operations Manager, at the New York bureau of TBS. “We’ve always been extremely comfortable using TVU products. Their fast customer support response time, even for minor issues, is incredibly helpful, especially when we’re shooting from the field and every second counts. Now, with H.265 support, we’re assured of even higher picture quality at a lower bit rate, which means we’ll be able to produce even more live shots and more file transfers from the field. TVU continually updates the feature set to respond to our requests. The TVU One gives us everything we’ve wanted – multi-band embedded modems, long battery life, multi-WiFi with smartphone control – all in one compact package.”

Weighing just 2.2 pounds, TVU One with HEVC offers a robust set of functions designed to fit the needs of any size live video broadcaster. It delivers industry-leading video transmission resiliency and high-definition picture quality within an ultra-compact and rugged hardware chassis. With TVU One with HEVC, broadcasters can fully leverage the versatility of a small, lightweight, IP-based high-definition video field transmitter without sacrificing performance, features or picture quality.

TVU will make its first appearance in the Central Hall this year, moving from its traditional location in South Hall. This hall will become TVU’s home at the LVCC for future NAB shows.

NAB 2017 runs from April 22 through the 27th at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

Already in use by hundreds of leading broadcast organizations around the world, the TVU Networks family of IP transmission solutions give broadcasters and organizations a powerful and reliable tool to distribute live video content to broadcast, online and mobile platforms. The TVU Networks suite of solutions has been used to deliver professional-quality live HD footage of a number of important events around the world including the World Cup, both Summer and Winter Olympic Games, U.S. presidential elections, natural disasters, the 2013 Papal conclave, the Super Bowl, the 2015 Papal visit to the United States and several international sporting events. IBC 2016: TVU NETWORKS ROLLS OUT NEXT GENERATION H.265 and 4K LIVE STREAMING VIDEO ENCODER

Technology Leader in IP Video Announces First of a New Family of HEVC Transmission Solutions at IBC 2016

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – September 8, 2016 – TVU Networks, a technology and market leader in IP-based live video solutions, officially announces today the availability of the TVU MLink TE4500 H.265/HEVC and 4K encoding solution for live video transmission. The MLink TE4500 is a rack-mount encoder that transmits video using HEVC video compression but also incorporates TVU265 enhanced HEVC, Smart VBR encoding and Inverse StatMux Plus advanced IP video technology. The MLink TE4500 delivers the same high quality picture that’s currently available with TVU’s award-winning cellular IP-based live video transmitters but with more efficient compression, requiring less data transmission. TVU will show the MLink TE4500, and it’s complete line of IP video solutions at stand 2.B28 at IBC.

TVU265 is TVU’s enhanced version of H.265 that’s designed to more efficiently use bandwidth for cellular video transmission. The industry recognized Inverse StatMux Plus fully utilizes all transmission connections and delivers just the right amount of forward error correction while eliminating the need for retransmission which can cause additional latency. TVU’s Smart VBR (Variable Bit-Rate Encoding) proactively manages the transmission bit‐rate for a desired latency, taking out the guesswork in optimizing for picture quality.

The MLink TE4500 is fully compatible with TVU’s family of rack-mount IP based transceiver video decoders. The MLink TE4500 and TVU transceivers operate within TVU’s Cloud-based ecosystem platform for centralized video content management and control supporting not just TVU solutions and services but SDI and IP video sources as well. The TVU ecosystem reduces or removes the requirement for broadcasters to rely on multiple pieces of equipment to manage their video content, while allowing them to manage and control all their video feeds from a single web interface anywhere in the world.

The TVU platform is flexible, allowing a broadcaster to add specific features, functions and services as they are needed, allowing them to move from a SDI to IP infrastructure in stages. Broadcasters can also directly control the MLink TE4500 and all other TVU transmitters, including the bit-rate and latency settings of each transmitter. For station groups, the TVU ecosystem allows video content to be easily and effectively switched, routed or distributed from one station to multiple locations anywhere with a TVU transceiver using TVU Grid.

“We are excited to be showing the first of an entire family of HEVC and 4K live video transmission solutions for the first time in Europe at IBC. The MLink TE4500 continues the tradition of all TVU transmitters that are designed specifically to deliver the best HD picture quality under even the most challenging broadcast environments and at latencies as low as sub-second,“ said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “The Cloud-based TVU ecosystem was developed to help broadcasters take advantage of the benefits of IP infrastructure to acquire, manage and move video content easily and cost effectively. While removing the reliance on expensive fiber and multiple different types of video equipment to manage content, the ecosystem is future-proofed to allow for the integration of new IP technologies such as HEVC.”

Added Shen, “Introducing a new line of HEVC codec and 4K integrated IP-based video products is part of our continuing commitment to deliver innovative IP technology solutions designed to meet the needs of our customers and the broadcast community. We are looking forward to introducing this important new product line starting with the TE4500, and its addition to the TVU video content ecosystem.”

Additional TVU solutions being showcased at IBC this year include:

TVU RPS – TVU’s Remote Production System (RPS) delivers a cost-effective alternative for live remote synchronized multi-camera news and sports coverage by leveraging a broadcaster’s existing studio control room staff and equipment and a public Internet connection from the field. With TVU RPS, a broadcaster can achieve on-location live production without the need for production trucks, dedicated fiber or large on-site production crews.

TVU One is the company’s fifth-generation live mobile IP newsgathering transmitter. It delivers transmission resiliency, performance, picture quality and sub-second latency in an ultra-compact form factor. TVU One features TVU Networks’ patented Inverse Statmux Plus (IS+) transmission algorithm, Smart VBR technology, and the TVU.264 video codec. It’s available with embedded modems and can transmit simultaneously over multiple mediums, including cellular, microwave, MIMO microwave mesh, Ka-band and Ku-band satellite, BGAN, WiFi, and Ethernet.

TVU Grid, an IP video distribution, routing and switching system gives broadcasters the ability to seamlessly switch live IP video content and share live streams between remote locations. TVU Grid removes the walls from broadcast stations, empowering users to distribute or collect content with just the click of a button.

TVU Alert is a cloud-based service that makes it quick and simple to send mission-critical alerts, such as breaking news, anywhere throughout a news organization. Alerts can be sent to and from any TVU edge device and can be customized and sent to individuals, devices or to entire groups in the network.

TVU Command Center is a cloud-based solution that allows for the central management and control of all the TVU transmitters, receivers, and services within a group from virtually anywhere. It features a robust set of video content management tools designed to integrate with a broadcaster’s workflow.

The company’s TVU Anywhere app turns an iPhone or Android device into a live video transmitter. Designed to turn your portable smart device or laptop instantly into a transmitter, TVU Anywhere enables reporters to instantly capture and transmit footage from anywhere at any time. TVU Anywhere is easy to use – just download the app to a smartphone, tablet or laptop, open the application and start transmitting video. TVU MLink live video uplink transmitter brings cellular 3G/4G/LTE transmission capabilities to satellite and microwave vehicles, vans and trucks. Designed for fixed deployment, MLink is a one RU rack unit that is capable of aggregating the transmission signals from multiple transmission mediums simultaneously, including cellular, satellite, microwave, WiFi and Ethernet.

TVUMe is an online video marketplace where broadcasters can sell and trade recorded video content and sell live video streams from a simple interface. Users can buy video content from other broadcasters, freelancers and independent production crews from around the world. Additionally, production crews can use the TVUMe online service to list production services and equipment for future booking, providing broadcasters with access to professional video crews around the globe.

TVU NETWORKS’ FACEBOOK LIVE INTEGRATION BRINGS DAILY MASS SERVICES HOME FOR THOUSANDS IN SAN ANTONIO AND BEYOND

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – July 7, 2016 – The Archdiocese of San Antonio’s Catholic television station, CTSA (Catholic Television of San Antonio), has become the first TVU Networks’ house of worship customer to take advantage of the company’s new Facebook Live integration. Starting June 27th, the Archdiocese has been live streaming its daily Mass service over its Facebook Live account to parishioners in San Antonio and anyone else in the world looking to connect with its message.

The CTSA broadcasts locally produced video content and covers off-site events such as local graduations and holiday celebrations using its TVUPack cellular 4G/LTE portable transmitter. Using the Facebook Live integration with TVUPack, the Archdiocese’s daily Mass services are streamed to the CTSA’s Facebook page: http://bit.ly/29bW3ov.

“Adding the Facebook live component gives us a reach we could never think of achieving though traditional means,” said Dagoberto Patlan, Operations Manager, CTSA.  “The potential for viewership from Catholics from all over the world is just astounding. Not only does this serve those who are shut ins or the infirmed, but parishioners who’ve relocated from San Antonio, like serving military and college students away from home. They can now tune in either live or play the Mass back later in the day, maintaining that connection to home and to their religion. Our core mission is outreach by media channels, and the TVU Pack with Facebook integration helps us fulfill that mission – to a tee.”

CTSA’s long-term plan is to provide live streams of other events in the Archdiocese via Facebook Live, such as press conferences, prayer services and on-location programs such as World Youth Day with Pope Francis.

TVU NETWORKS AND ASSOCIATED PRESS TO INTEGRATE TVU ALERT SERVICE WITH AP ENPS

TVU Alert Allows AP ENPS Users to Receive Mission-critical Message Alerts and Preview Incoming Video Streams Within ENPS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – April 18, 2016 – TVU Networks, the global technology leader in live IP video solutions, and the Associated Press (AP), provider of the industry-leading AP ENPS multi-platform news production system, today announced that they have partnered to deliver an integrated solution designed to speed the notification of breaking news within a broadcast organization using the new TVU Alert service and AP’s ENPS. This new combined solution allows for mission-critical TVU Alerts to be sent directly to AP ENPS users and allow for the preview of incoming TVU video streams within AP ENPS. The new TVU Alert/AP ENPS integration will be demonstrated at the TVU Networks booth #SU4405 at the NAB convention this month, from April 18-21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

TVU Alert is a new service from TVU Networks that quickly delivers enterprise-wide programming and operational alerts across multiple TVU transmitter, receiver and management devices. AP ENPS sees the TVU Alerts as urgent messages, similar to other content alerts like AP news wires. Details of a live news event including the name, description, location, event time and notes are displayed in addition to the unique ID of the transmitter and receiver. Additionally, the Alert provides users the ability to preview the live stream in ENPS.

“Today more than ever, reporting on breaking news first is what separates the most respected and ‘first choice’ news sources from their competition,” said Matt McEwen, VP of Product Management, TVU Networks. “With this new partnership, TVU Alert allows any user with a TVU device to create a short breaking news alert and send it to other TVU devices as well as AP ENPS. This allows everyone within the news organizations who has access to TVU devices or an ENPS client, such as reporters, directors, management and technical staff, to access details on a breaking story with just a mouse click. The system provides previews of incoming video streams related to breaking news within AP ENPS. We are excited to be working with the Associated Press on this new combined solution.”

“The ENPS, TVU integration allows journalists to have more critical information available to them, allowing them to focus on fast and accurate storytelling,” said Andy Wormser, Director of ENPS Product Design for The Associated Press.

AP ENPS powers more broadcast newsrooms worldwide than any other solution.
