The Global Broadcasting Company Launches 2 Channels on TVU Networks
Mountain View, California – December 30, 2009 – The Global Broadcasting Company, Inc. and TVU Networks, a global live Internet TV service with a user base of 52 million viewers in 200 countries, jointly announced today the addition of the first 2 channels of a 7 channel bouquet that will be available worldwide. The first two channels of the bouquet to launch are America Unleashed and Total Hip Hop Television: Youth Culture TV™. The Global Broadcasting Company, Inc is considered a leading force in the global delivery of U.S. produced independent content. GBC’s seven channels are a sought-after source of both the best in traditional and cutting edge television entertainment. The remaining five channels will launch in the first quarter of 2010. They are: Faith Lifestyle TV; Indie Sports & Games; Indie Pix & Classics; News & Finance; and Travel, Home & Garden. The number of markets with notable IPTV deployments has quadrupled in the last five years, and by the end of the second quarter of 2009 there were some 26.3 million IPTV subscribers worldwide. In the same quarter of last year there were around 17.1 million subscribers, so that’s an annual increase of 53 percent. South America, Eastern and more of Western Europe are now coming on board. The Multimedia Research Group is predicting a compound annual growth rate in IPTV subscribers of 31%, growing from 28 million this year, to 83 million in 2013; adding that the 2009 subscriber total exceeded its forecast from earlier this year by two million. The European region will continue to lead in IPTV deployments in 2013 with 48 per cent share, followed by Asia and North America.
